Printing Tips!

  1. Copy Instead of Printing!
    • When you take into consideration the printing plate and setup time on a press, quantities of less than 500 are more cost effective being copied. However, when reproducing 500 or more of the same copy image, printing would be the best choice. Never "copy" letterhead for correspondence, always use printed stationery -- your company image is at stake.

  2. Combine Similar Items!
    • Business cards, stationery, envelopes, invoices, or any printed items that are printed in your "company colors" should be printed together! Track usage of these items to coordinate the printing order for the same time. This will save you the cost of additional color 'wash-ups' you would incur by ordering your letterhead this week, and envelopes next week.

  3. Evaluate Multi-Part Forms!
    • Are all parts being used as originally anticipated? Do you find yourself throwing away the last part? If possible eliminate extra parts. Also, you can save money by using the Standard Color Sequence: white, canary, pink and gold.

  4. Number Forms!
    • Do you find your costly forms being used to take notes, and record messages? By numbering your critical forms you establish an accountability, as well as eliminating the possibility of these forms being fabricated.

  5. Order in Larger Quantities!
    • Printing is basically a custom manufacturing environment. The "setup" time allocated in the printing task is a fixed factor. Once the press is up and running the only cost factors are material and labor. The net result - the larger the quantity the lower the unit cost!

  6. Re-Cycle Your Old Forms Into Scratch Pads!
    • As forms become obsolete have them padded into scratch pads.

  7. Condense And Consolidate!
    • When is the last time you evaluated your printed forms? Are they efficient? Are they complete? Are they confusing? Are they necessary? If possible, combine useful information into fewer forms.

  8. Evaluate Paper Stock!
    • Are you using lower cost papers for internal forms? Did you know every year new paper stocks are introduced and some eliminated. Sometimes you can stock-up on your office stationary when being discontinued. Also, if you like a paper stock that is too expensive, your printer can usually show you a less costly alternative.

  9. Eliminate Unnecessary Color!
    • Eliminate additional color from internal documents. Use black ink only and photocopies will reproduce with better clarity.

  10. Imprint Second Side!
    • For any progress type forms instead of continuing on a second sheet, use the back of the sheet.
